Patient Safety at our Accredited Surgery Center

Dr. Murphy has served as an inspector for AAAASF, resulting in a thorough comprehension of accreditation standards, and patient safety. AAAASF requirements exceed those Colorado licensure requirements.  Murphy Plastic Surgery staff are licensed and certified in either Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS) or Basic Life Support (BLS). The most recent inspection included a review of current standards, and completion of a 130-page certification questionnaire which details more than 300 specific items that require compliance. Confidential peer review of surgical procedures is a key component to approval by the AAAASF to ensure patient safety at our surgery center.

Previous Chief of Plastic Surgery at Swedish Hospital

Dr. Murphy’s facility is the only private, office-based surgery center in Colorado connected to a nationally recognized Level One Trauma Center, Swedish Medical Center.  As the previous Chief of Plastic Surgery, he attends Department of Surgery meetings to discuss accreditation requirements and as a result keeps Dr. Murphy up-to-date. Dr. Murphy maintains agreements and protocols for transfer of patients to Swedish.  Additionally, he assesses all surgery patients in relation to the guidelines of the American Society of Anesthesiology to assure that they are appropriate for General or Sedation Anesthesia.

State-of-the-Art Equipment & Supplies for Patient Safety

Contractors review our facility’s surgical equipment and inventory regularly.  Bell Medical, anesthesia equipment specialists, inspects and maintains our anesthesia machine.  Hospital Shared Services inspects and certifies the other surgical equipment for patient safety.  High-Tech-Med, Inc. maintains our laser equipment annually. Dr. Murphy purchases all medications and supplies used in our surgical suite from reputable national medical supply companies used by hospitals such as Henry Schein and McKesson. Staff members review and reorder medications as needed.  Our injectables and implants are purchased from their source companies including Allergan and Johnson & Johnson.  By managing operations this way, our practice and our patients can rest assured that the equipment will function properly and medications will be up-to-date and of the highest quality.
