Here at Murphy Plastic Surgery in Englewood, CO, we’re proud to offer this groundbreaking dermal filler that smooths and lifts the skin so you can feel more confident in just a matter of minutes.

How Many Times Can You Get Juvederm?

One of the many perks of Juvederm is that once the effects start to wear off, patients can simply book a maintenance session so they can achieve the same gorgeous results all over again. You may even be able to schedule a mini touch-up session in between your proper sessions! Because this treatment is made up of ingredients that occur naturally in the body, it can be used repeatedly to treat cosmetic concerns without posing any kind of risk to the patient.

What Exactly Is Juvederm?

This is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved cosmetic treatment known as a “dermal filler” that is designed to turn back the clock on aging skin. It does this by replenishing the skin with volume, which lifts sagging skin, smooths out lines, and fills out sunken areas of the face. There are several different types of Juvederm, each serving a slightly different function, and they’re injected into the face’s soft tissue using a fine needle. The result is youthful, radiant skin in a matter of minutes.

How Does This Treatment Work?

One of the major contributors to wrinkles is a loss of hyaluronic acid, or HA, which is a substance our bodies naturally produce. HA is responsible for bringing moisture to the skin, but as we get older, our production of HA slows. Without it, the skin gets more coarse and saggy. Less HA also leads to less production of collagen and elastin, other vital proteins that keep the skin filled with volume. The result is folds and drooping in the skin, creating wrinkles and lines.

But, astoundingly, this treatment uses HA as its main ingredient, this time synthetically made. When injected into the body, the HA immediately looks for water to bind to, and then brings that water back to the skin. The skin instantly becomes more plump and hydrated, and volume continues to develop as your body absorbs the HA and your face settles into its new structure. The results are subtle and natural-looking, but the result is a stunning, sculpted look.

What Can Juvederm Be Used To Treat?

This incredible treatment is primarily used on lines and wrinkles that are the result of sagging skin. This includes things like crow’s feet, frown lines, marionette lines (the deep lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin), and nasolabial folds (the lines that run from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth). It can effectively fill out sunken areas of the face like under-eye bags, hollow cheeks, and depressed temples. It’s also commonly used as a lip filler.

Is Aging the Only Cause of Wrinkles?

Unfortunately, there are a whole lot of factors that contribute to the development of wrinkles. Lifestyle factors like smoking, drinking, fluctuating weight, and diet can play a huge part in when our production of HA slows. Even air pollution has been proven to be a cause! So there’s no one “right age” to seek out this treatment – if you’re unhappy with your skin, we’d love for you to come in for a chat with us here at Murphy Plastic Surgery.

What Are the Different Types of Juvederm?

There’s a suite of products that can be used during this treatment, each of them specifically designed to treat different concerns.

  • Ultra – A popular option thanks to natural-looking results. Ultra is particularly effective when used to smooth out fine lines, and as a lip filler.
  • Ultra Plus – A more robust treatment that yields striking results on the lower face. As a lip filler, it will give you an Instagram-worthy pout.
  • Volbella – A very subtle option used only as a lip filler. It has a thin consistency and creates symmetry in the lips.
  • Vollure – It works to lift and firm all at once, which makes it a great weapon against jowls and sagging skin at the bottom of the face.
  • Voluma – A gel filler that can create plump, round cheeks, or even restore shape and volume to the nose.

What Should I Expect Out of This Treatment?

Before

You’ll first be asked to come in for a consultation. This is the time when you can tell us exactly what you want to be treated, and we can make sure dermal fillers will be the best option for you. It’s also our chance to look at your medical history and medication record to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for treatment. If everything looks good, we’ll design a treatment plan for you that will be used during your session. Then you’re all set!

On the Day

We perform this treatment in-house in our beautiful Englewood office. We’ll ask you to come in with a makeup-free face and may start by applying a topical numbing cream to the treatment areas. We’ll then make the series of injections, which many of our patients report are so gentle that they can’t even feel them. The process only takes a few minutes, after which time you’re free to go.

Is This Treatment Safe?

This treatment is one of the safest cosmetic solutions available. Unlike cosmetic surgery, this treatment is minimally invasive, so patients won’t need to worry about any risk of infection that comes with “going under the knife”. There’s also no anesthetic used. Also noteworthy is the fact that HA is naturally occurring in the body, which means patients are very unlikely to have an allergic reaction to the product used or for the body to reject it.

What Will the Recovery Period Be Like?

Another difference between dermal fillers and surgical options? There’s no downtime required! Patients can immediately carry on with their days afterward, even driving themselves to and from their appointment. You’ll likely be advised against certain activities for a few days afterward to ensure your treated skin remains as healthy and protected as possible. These may include strenuous exercise, spending time in harsh direct sunlight, or using certain strong products on the skin. This will only be for a few days at the most while your skin settles and heals after treatment.

When Will My Results Develop and How Long Will They Last?

Excitingly, the boost of moisture the HA gives the skin means you’ll see some new suppleness right away. These results will develop in the weeks following, and many of our patients experience the full results after about two weeks. Depending on the product we use your results can last between four to six months and a whopping two years! Products with a thinner consistency will last for less time than products with a thick or gel consistency.

Who Is a Good Candidate for This Treatment?

While many of our patients here at Murphy Plastic Surgery are in their 40s and 50s, wrinkles and sagging skin can affect people of any gender, age, or skin tone. That’s why we encourage anyone who’s been feeling self-conscious or worried about the way they look to come in for a consultation, as long as they’re over 18. Some medications and conditions may not be suited for this treatment, including pregnancy and breastfeeding.

If we conclude that dermal fillers might not be your best option for treatment, we’ll be thrilled to talk you through some fantastic alternatives. Perhaps you struggle with dynamic wrinkles, in which case you might be interested in Botox. Maybe you’re scared of needles and would like to try a skin peel instead! You might even want to see more dramatic results and look into a Facelift. Whatever your needs, we’ll be sure to meet them.
